Nea Potidaea, (Greece)
It was an ancient Greek city founded around 625 BC. C. by Evágoras, son of Periander of Corinth in the isthmus of Palene in Calcídica.
The current official name of the town is Nea Potidea, recovering the original name of the ancient city, although it is commonly known only as Potidea. Today it is a large coastal settlement belonging to the municipality of Nea Propontida in the peripheral unit of Chalkidiki, on the outskirts of Central Macedonia. Its population is 1,559 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census. And it is located 6 km south of Nea Moudaniá, at the narrowest point of the Kassandra peninsula, ancient Palene. Contemporary inhabitants are mainly engaged in tourism and fishing.
